EA Sports Ignite Is a Next-Gen "Protective Measure"

If you’re an EA Sports fan, you probably felt an unsettling sense of déjà vu during the debut of its Ignite sports engine -- at the beginning of the last console generation, EA made similarly large promises for its franchises that inevitably failed. What Madden looked like in a demo isn’t what Madden looked like for many years.

Andrew Wilson, the head of EA Sports, is acutely aware of this, even if, in his own words, he has “selective memory” about failing to live up to certain expectations. With Xbox One and PlayStation 4, however, that won’t be an issue: “Because of EA Sports Ignite,” Wilson told IGN, “it’s actually protective measure for us.”

The development community now is simply better prepared for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game creation. “I was building games this time last generation. We had nothing running,” Wilson said. “We had black screens and blinking cursors. Pretty much everyone in the industry was dealing with the same thing. As an industry, we collectively got to this point in time completely unprepared.”
