The Legend of Zelda for Wii U delayed out of 2015, won't be at E3

May 4, 2013
If you were hoping to play the new Zelda on the Wii U this holiday season, those dreams have been dashed with a single Facebook video. In an update from Legend of Zelda’s top producer, Eiji Aonuma, he explains that development on the upcoming game has grown to the point that the team won’t be able to finish it for the previously announced 2015 release. In a separate statement on The Legend of Zelda's Miiverse page, Aonuma divulged further, saying that the game won’t even be at E3 this year, making making a late 2016 release even more likely. One hopes that means it’ll be out by 2016, though who knows with a game as huge as Zelda.

Aonuma was apologetic in his simple video message, and you could also feel his excitement for what Nintendo is making with this open world adventure. Apparently there are some new ideas and concepts being implemented that justify pushing back the kind of major release that could really boost the Wii U. There’s no new gameplay details to go with that update, but read on to familiarize yourself with everything we know about the game to date.
